The head of what is currently reckoned to be the biggest law firm in the world, by revenues, Clifford Chance's Stuart Popham is the Senior Partner of Clifford Chance LLP, worldwide. He chairs the Partnership Council, the supervisory board of the worldwide firm. While being responsible for a number of client relationships, he has assumed particular responsibility for Clifford Chance's reputation and values.
He is a foremost international envoy for London's financial services and professional services industries, and most recently accompanied the Chancellor George Osborne to India on a visit that brought up issues of mutual trading interest in relation to the opening up of the Indian market to UK financial and legal services. While there he forecast the opening a Clifford Chance office in India by 2013.
Popham sat on the EU Advisory Board for the Corporation of the City of London, and now chairs TheCityUK, the umbrella body set up in 2009 by the industry and seed funded by the City of London Corporation to promote the whole of the UK as a financial centre.
