General Director - Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF)

Jean Guill replaced Jean-Nicolas Schaus as Director General of the “Commission de surveillance du secteur financier” (CSSF) in May 2009. Guill was previously Director of the Treasury at the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance.

He was previously Director of the Treasury in the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance from 1998.

He started his professional career in 1974 at the “Commissariat au ContrĂ´le des Banques” and, when that institution was replaced by the “Institut MonĂ©taire Luxembourgeois” (IML) in 1983, he was a member of its Managing Board until 1998. At the EU level, Guill was a member of the Monetary Committee and its successor, the Economic and Financial Committee, from 1983 until 2009, attending Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings in that capacity. From 1983 until 1998 he was the Alternate to the Luxembourg representative in the Central Bank Governors’ fora, at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the European Monetary Institute (EMI). He chaired the EMI’s Committee of Legal Experts for its whole duration. From 1978 to 1979 he was in Washington in the office of the Executive Director for Luxembourg at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. During his time in the Finance Ministry, he was an Alternate Governor of the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as well as a State representative in the Boards of different national institutions and companies.
