Geoff Weir is Director, Australian Financial Centre Forum. Weir began his career in The Australian Treasury, Reserve Bank of Australia and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. In 1991 he moved to the financial sector, working in London and Paris as a hedge fund strategist for Bankers Trust International and later for Moore Capital. In 1996 Geoff returned to Sydney to take up a position as Head of Global Fixed Income at BT Funds Management. In 2002 he moved to JBWere (now Goldman Sachs JBWere) where he worked as strategist on a global macro hedge fund.

On 26 September 2008, the Australian Financial Centre Forum (AFCF) was established to progress the Government's initiative to position Australia as a leading financial services centre in the region.

The AFCF is a Government and industry partnership comprising: a Chairman, Mr Mark Johnson; a Panel of Experts, consisting of six senior financial sector representatives; the Treasury Taskforce; and a Reference Group, which will be the main consultative body and includes representatives from the peak financial sector industry associations, the State Governments and Austrade.
