Daniel M Gallagher is partner in the Broker-Dealer Compliance and Regulation Practice Group and the Securities Litigation and Enforcement Practice Group of WilmerHale, the Washington DC law firm. Dan Gallagher was most recently the Deputy Director of the Division of Trading and Markets at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He served as Co-Acting Director of the Division from April 2009 to January 2010. His duties focussed on the Division's regulatory program, including oversight of broker-dealers and Nationally Recognized Statistical Rating Organizations. Before assuming his role as Deputy Director in July 2008, he served as counsel to both SEC Chairman Christopher Cox and Commissioner Paul S. Atkins. Prior to working at the SEC, he served as General Counsel and Senior Vice-President of Fiserv Securities, Inc., a clearing broker-dealer, where he was responsible for the firm's legal and regulatory matters. Dan began his career at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, advising clients on broker-dealer regulatory issues and representing clients in enforcement proceedings initiated by the SEC and self-regulatory organizations. He received his law degree, magna cum laude, from Catholic University of America, where he was a member of the law review, and graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in English.
