Gay Mitchell
Member
European Parliament
Gay is Fine Gael member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Dublin. He is a member of the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and of the Committee on Development. Gay is a chartered company secretary and holds an MSSc from Queen's University Belfast (QUB). He is a former member of Dublin City Council (1979-1995 and 1999-2003). He has been a member of Dail Eireann since 1981. Gay was Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach and at the Department of Foreign Affairs with special responsibility for European Affairs 1994-1997 (preparation of the IGC in 1996, during Ireland's EU Presidency). Gay was also Lord Mayor of Dublin (1992-1993). He was Chairman of the Dail Committee of Public Accounts (1987-1993). He was also Chairman of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Affairs (July, 2002 ‑ October, 2004). He was Chairman in office, COSAC (January ‑ July, 2004). Gay was also Fine Gael Foreign Affairs spokesperson until October, 2004. He is a Member of the Reflection Group on Amsterdam Treaty.
