97 Peter Sands
Group CEO - Standard Chartered Bank

Peter Sands was appointed Group Chief Executive of Standard Chartered PLC in November 2006. Immediately prior to this he had been Group Finance Director of Standard Chartered PLC since his appointment as a Group Executive Director in May 2002.

He grew up in Asia, giving him an intuitive understanding of StanChart's important Asian franchse. He has also been engaged in considerable 'bluesky' analysis of the way forward in fixing the broken banking system, outlined for example in an article he contributed to the Sunday Telegraph in June 2010.

Prior to his appointment to the Board of Standard Chartered PLC, he was a Director with McKinsey & Co. He had been with McKinsey since 1988 where he worked extensively in the banking and technology sectors. He was elected a partner of McKinsey in 1996 and became Director in 2000.

Peter graduated from Oxford University and holds a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University, where he was a Harkness Fellow.
