Michael Spencer is leading a series of initiatives that will reshape the OTC marketplace. He is the chief executive of ICAP plc, the world's largest interdealer broker. He is also currently the owner of spread betting firm City Index, one of the pioneering and most successful firms in bringing the principles of betting into the sphere of financial risk management.

He is currently also the Treasurer of the Conservative party, although he has signalled his intention to stand down from the role later in 2010, to concentrate on business matters, and, to bask in the glory of having contributed to a successful restoration of the party to power.
